Principal’s Monday Morning Message ~ April 13

Good morning!  This is the April 13th Monday morning message from Ms. Kasner and Ms. Page.

We hope that you all had a restful weekend with your loved ones.  This week we are officially entering Phase 3 of Distance Learning, meaning teachers will be providing scheduled instruction to their students.  All teachers have prepared a weekly schedule and lessons based on the guidance from SFUSD on Distance Learning.  Here are the updates for this week:

1 – For Phase 3, we expect students to engage in approximately 4 hours a day of distance learning; however this may look different depending on your child’s age and grade.  Each grade level team is collaborating thoughtfully to deliver a plan that will ensure the Continuity of Learning for all students.  These 4 hours of learning may include, but is not limited to, direct instruction from your child’s teacher through pre-recorded videos or Zoom time, morning messages, instruction of new content, review of past content, social emotional development, independent skills practice, PE, Brain Breaks, Art, independent reading, etc. With this in mind, we also want to be cognizant of the time students spend in front of a computer, so please encourage your child to take breaks often.  All teachers have also set up weekly office hours to answer questions and provide support to students in groups or individually. 2- Starting this week, our After School staff will join us to provide activities and support to the students. [Please look for emails from Ms. Bel about FSK ASLP’s Zoom schedule and email her if you have any questions.]

3- We recognize that we are all adapting to this new way of teaching and learning and that now, more than ever, we are requiring more collaboration and time from families.   At FS Key, we have always encouraged students to learn from their surroundings without limiting their creativity and curiosity to classrooms. This is a perfect opportunity for students to participate in everyday activities and further develop their life skills.

4- For Kinder – 2nd grade students, SFUSD has created [optional] print-based packets that are available for pick-up this week at 9 different locations (Sheridan, Chávez, Muir, Rosa Parks, Tenderloin, Bessie Carmichael, Bret Harte, VisValley ES, and AP Giannini). For our school, these packets are optional and may be picked up for your child if you are in need of more support.

5-  Many of you have asked about Spring photos, our yearbook, 5G Graduation, etc. We will keep you posted as we receive new information.

6- Lastly, we want to remind you that SFUSD is constantly monitoring the online safety of your children. The Department of Technology has created a SFUSD-specific Zoom domain which requires your child to sign-in to their Zoom meetings using their District account. Please let your child’s teacher know if you have any questions or need any help.

As always, thank you for your continued support and compassion. If you have any specific needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Kasner (kasnery@sfusd.edu) or Ms. Page (pagem@sfusd.edu). Even though the school building is closed until the end of the school year, we miss you and are thinking of you each and every day.

Be well and stay safe!
With love,
Ms. Kasner and Ms. Page
